JORDAN MAX LET ME LAY DOWN

From the tone of his rasping soulful voice, you would have expected Jordan Max to hail from the blues filled deep American south rather than northern England's Oldham, but you would be very wrong. New track 'Let Me Lay Down' is the second to be taken from his debut EP Only One Is King (out 25th March via tastemaker label Full+Bless) and is a much angrier song than the more mournful 'Hell'. Reproachful lyrics and a clean soul bed underneath, Jordan Max makes it all about his voice as it cracks and pitches with painful release. Distinctive and refreshingly unique, with an excellent guitar freestyle at the end, Max shows us a different kind of northern soul. -SJ
